winter

The winter weather can sometimes be difficult to drive in. You should always make sure to check the weather conditions before you plan on driving, especially a long distance. If you notice the weather might be less than perfect, then check the road conditions. This will help you to be aware of what type of roads you might have to drive on. If it is right around freezing, you may encounter black ice. This can be dangerous because black ice is very difficult to see. More often than not, you will not know about black ice until you are on it. Make sure to always slow down when roads are slick. Also remember to never use cruise control.

Leave Distance

Make sure to allow enough distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Ideally it should be three seconds. When the weather is poor, this should be extended to six or nine seconds. Allowing enough space will help you to have room incase the vehicle in front of you slams on the brakes. If you follow too close, then you could rear end the vehicle in front of you. There is also a chance of going in the ditch. If it is snowing, remember to turn your headlights on. This will help others to see where you are on the road, since visibility will be reduced.

Check the Tires

Checking the tires should also be done regularly in the winter. When it is cold, you can lose more air pressure quickly. Check the tires before you drive. When the tires are warmed up from driving, it can give you a false reading. If the tires are low on air pressure often, there could be a leak. It may also be caused by the rims or valve stem. It is important to contact us for an appointment. That way we can quickly locate the problem for the tires and have it repaired. Having good tires also increases your safety in the winter.
