When it starts snowing out, and you are driving, make sure to drive safely. The first thing you will want to do is to slow down. If you reduce your speed, you will be able to keep better control of your vehicle. Remember, just because you have 4-wheel drive, does not mean your vehicle can go through anything. So when the weather or roads are poor, you will want to slow down and drive a speed that you are comfortable at. If your speed has greatly reduced, it is recommended to use the hazard lights or four way flashers. This will then alert other drivers that you are driving at a much slower speed. It also gives them enough time to slow down and adjust their own driving.
Road Conditions
Even light snow can cause an issue. This can start to build up on the roads and cause the roads to become slick. If there is sleet or rain, the roads could become icy as well. You will always want to make sure to turn on the lights of your vehicle when you drive when it is snowing. This will help your visibility, as well as others seeing your vehicle too. If the lights on your vehicle are dim or worn out, make sure to schedule an appointment with us. We can check the lights to ensure that they are aimed properly and have the correct brightness. We can even check the blinkers and hazard lights.
Check the tires more frequently in the winter as well. The tires make contact with the road, so you will want to make sure they have proper tread. If the tread is too low, they may be more prone to sliding. If you ever have questions with the tires, bring the vehicle in so we can inspect all the tires for you.
